Robbie Page Memorial

"To receive much...you must give much."

Sigma Sigma Sigma centers its philanthropic efforts around the theme "Sigma Serves Children," specifically through the Robbie Page Memorial. Established following the 1951 death of a son of the Sorority's National President, Mary Hastings Holloway Page, the RPM supported various polio research projects including the Salk vaccine trials.

Long range programming to develop and support play therapy for hospitalized children began at North Carolina Memorial Hospital once a cure for polio was discovered. By focusing on the emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children, funds raised by collegiate and alumnae chapters were used not only to establish playrooms, but also to create a specialized field of study for professionals in child development and associated health care professions.

Sigmas take satisfaction in knowing that the leadership of their funded projects for children have helped people realize the value of recreational therapy for hospitalized children. Current national efforts are centered on supporting the play therapy programs at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, and Children's Medical Center in Dallas,Texas.

Robbie Page Memorial Grants have been awarded to these institutions focusing not only on funding the renovations and materials for hospital playrooms, but also funding graduate assistantships at the University of North Carolina in Recreational Therapy and fellowships at Children's Medical Center.

For outstanding support of Child Life and Play Therapy programs, the National Therapeutic Recreation Society has recognized Sigma Sigma Sigma, since contributions from the Sorority have benefited thousands of children.

Penny Wars

Each spring, Tri Sigma hosts a week long challenge for all Greeks on campus. Each group has a bucket in the mall area in which change is collected. Dollars, quarters, dimes, and nickels are all positive points while pennies are negative. The goal is to have the highest number of points at the end of the week.

Hospital Trips

Sigma Sigma Sigma sponsors play therapy rooms in the Dallas Children's Hospital. Each semester, Sigma visits the hospital and brings different crafts to do with the children in the hospital. Last semester, the crafts included decorating door hangers and stuffing pillows for their rooms. Tri Sigma also spends time at Memorial Hermon in Houston. This lets us do service work with our Houston Alumnae Chapter.
